We were among the first teams in Spain to specialize in mobile app development. We’re not bringing that up as a bit of trivia, it actually explains something about how we work today: we’ve spent over a decade staying ahead of shifts in platforms, frameworks and development paradigms, and each one taught us the same lesson, new technology doesn’t replace a team’s judgment, it puts it to the test.<\/p>\n

The same thing is playing out with artificial intelligence. We’re an AI-first<\/strong> company, not an AI-only<\/strong> one: we use AI heavily in our day to day work because it genuinely speeds things up, but every decision that matters (what to build, how to design it, which code goes into production) still sits with experienced people. This article explains what that looks like in practice, which tools we work with, and, above all, where we draw the line between what we hand off to AI and what we don’t.<\/p>\n

Why “AI-first” and not “AI-only”<\/h2>\n

It’s easy to mix the two up, so it’s worth telling them apart from the start.<\/p>\n

AI-only<\/strong> would mean building products by letting AI make the calls that really matter: which feature to prioritize, how a screen should look, whether a piece of code is good enough for production. It’s a quick thing to announce, but in practice it produces generic products, with errors that are hard to catch and none of the coherence a real product vision brings.<\/p>\n

AI-first<\/strong> is the opposite: AI is the first tool we reach for to speed up specific tasks (researching, prototyping, writing code, testing, automating), but the judgment that decides what to do with whatever that AI produces stays human, and stays expert. We’re not chasing AI as a trend; we bring it in where it adds real, measurable value, and we leave it out where it doesn’t.<\/p>\n

This way of working rests on four pillars we apply on every project: product thinking<\/strong>, AI-first delivery<\/strong>, engineering excellence<\/strong> and native experience<\/strong>. Let’s go through them one by one.<\/p>\n

1. Product thinking: business first<\/h2>\n

Before we talk about which AI tool we’re using, we talk about which business problem we’re solving. No tool, however powerful, replaces the ability to spot which opportunity creates the most value for a specific client, in their specific market, with their specific users.<\/p>\n

In practice, this means every project kicks off with a product team (not just a tech team) asking the right questions: what problem the app solves, for whom, and what success actually means in business terms, not just in features shipped. AI comes in afterward, to speed up how we research, explore alternatives and validate hypotheses (as we cover in more detail in our post on how we build a mobile app with AI, phase by phase<\/a>), but it never decides for us what’s worth building.<\/p>\n

It’s the difference between using AI to work faster and using it to think less. We do the former.<\/p>\n

2. AI-first delivery: AI speeds things up, the team decides<\/h2>\n

This is the pillar where our AI-first approach shows up most in day to day work. Tools like Cursor<\/strong> and GitHub Copilot<\/strong>are part of our engineering teams’ regular flow for writing and reviewing code; Figma AI<\/strong> speeds up exploring design alternatives and generating prototypes; we use AI-assisted QA<\/strong> to generate test cases, catch visual regressions and figure out what to test on each release; and we apply AI-driven automation<\/strong> to repetitive documentation, testing and deployment tasks that used to eat up hours of skilled work.<\/p>\n

These specific tools will change over time (staying on top of which ones are best at any given moment is part of our job), but the underlying principle doesn’t: AI takes on the mechanical, repetitive part, and experienced people handle the decisions that actually matter (architecture, security, maintainability, experience quality). All AI-assisted code goes through the same review, testing and quality control process as any other line in the project, no shortcuts just because a model was involved.<\/p>\n

3. Engineering excellence: code built to last<\/h2>\n

AI can write code fast, but speed isn’t the goal if the result can’t be maintained. Bringing AI into the process hasn’t changed our engineering standard: we still write clean, tested, documented code, built to scale, evolve and stay sustainable two, three or five years down the line, not just until launch day.<\/p>\n

In practice, this means any AI-assisted code gets treated as a first draft, never as a final version: it goes through human review, the same architecture standards we apply across the rest of the project, and the same automated testing process. AI lets us write faster, but making sure that code is correct, secure and maintainable is still on us, not on the model that suggested it.<\/p>\n

4. Native experience: making the technology as invisible as possible<\/h2>\n

The last pillar has less to do with how we build and more with what the end user actually notices. The more complex technology sits behind an app (and with AI built in, there’s more of it every day), the more it matters that the user doesn’t notice it: that the experience feels fast, intuitive and natural, with no visible friction or artifice.<\/p>\n

This matters even more when AI is part of the product experience itself, not just the process of building it (the copilots, RAG systems, computer vision or voice interfaces we cover in the 10 AI capabilities redefining mobile applications<\/a>). An AI feature that feels like AI (slow, robotic, forced) misses the point, no matter how advanced the technology behind it is. The goal is always a native experience: fast, intuitive, with the technical complexity staying invisible to whoever’s using it.<\/p>\n

What we don’t hand off to AI<\/h2>\n

With the four pillars laid out, it’s worth being explicit about where we draw the line, because that’s what actually sets an AI-first approach apart from an AI-only one:<\/p>\n

  • What to build and why.<\/strong> Product and prioritization decisions are made by an experienced product team, informed by AI but never steered by it.<\/li>\n
  • Deciding whether a result is good enough.<\/strong> A model can produce a fluent, well-formed answer that still falls short of what the case actually calls for: getting the right edge case right, matching the brand’s tone, being clear enough that a real user doesn’t stumble over it. Telling “sounds good” apart from “actually works” takes knowing the domain and the end user, something only a person with real experience on that specific project can bring.<\/li>\n
  • Architecture and security decisions.<\/strong> These are the areas where a mistake carries the highest long-term cost, and where a senior engineering team’s experience has no substitute.<\/li>\n
  • The relationship with the client.<\/strong> AI plays no part in understanding what a client truly needs, or in the conversations where a project’s strategic decisions get made.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n

    This is what we mean when we say AI doesn’t replace our teams: it amplifies what experienced product teams can build. It doesn’t do the work for us; it lets us do more, and better, of the work we already knew how to do.<\/p>\n

    A long-term partner, not a feature vendor<\/h2>\n

    Everything above serves a purpose that goes beyond any single project: building long-term relationships with our clients, not shipping one-off features. A well-applied AI-first approach doesn’t compete on who can ship an eye-catching demo the fastest, it competes on who builds products that keep working, evolving and delivering value long after the technology trend that made them possible has moved on.<\/p>\n
