In this timeline, we have compiled the most relevant milestones.The Calendar of the New EU AI Act: The Ultimate Step-by-Step Implementation Guide.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h2 data-path-to-node=\"2\">Key dates timeline<\/h2>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<div id=\"model-response-message-contentr_73416b1ae1bb1e01\" class=\"markdown markdown-main-panel stronger enable-updated-hr-color\" dir=\"ltr\" aria-live=\"polite\" aria-busy=\"false\">\n<h3 data-path-to-node=\"3\">2024<\/h3>\n<p data-path-to-node=\"4\"><b data-path-to-node=\"4\" data-index-in-node=\"0\">July 12, 2024<\/b><\/p>\n<p data-path-to-node=\"4\">The law is officially published in the <b data-path-to-node=\"4\" data-index-in-node=\"53\">Official Journal of the European Union<\/b>, representing the formal notification of its existence.<\/p>\n<p data-path-to-node=\"4\"><i data-path-to-node=\"4\" data-index-in-node=\"148\">(Article 113)<\/i><\/p>\n<p data-path-to-node=\"5\"><b data-path-to-node=\"5\" data-index-in-node=\"0\">August 1, 2024<\/b><\/p>\n<p data-path-to-node=\"5\">The <b data-path-to-node=\"5\" data-index-in-node=\"19\">AI Act enters into force<\/b>. This date marks its formal activation, although specific obligations will be implemented in a staggered manner.<\/p>\n<p data-path-to-node=\"5\"><i data-path-to-node=\"5\" data-index-in-node=\"157\">(Article 113)<\/i><\/p>\n<p data-path-to-node=\"6\"><b data-path-to-node=\"6\" data-index-in-node=\"0\">November 2, 2024<\/b><\/p>\n<p data-path-to-node=\"6\">Member States must identify and make public the list of authorities responsible for protecting <b data-path-to-node=\"6\" data-index-in-node=\"112\">fundamental rights<\/b> in the field of AI. They must also notify the Commission and other Member States.<\/p>\n<p data-path-to-node=\"6\"><i data-path-to-node=\"6\" data-index-in-node=\"213\">(Article 77.2)<\/i><\/p>\n<h3 data-path-to-node=\"6\">2025<\/h3>\n<\/div>\n<div id=\"model-response-message-contentr_73416b1ae1bb1e01\" class=\"markdown markdown-main-panel stronger enable-updated-hr-color\" dir=\"ltr\" aria-live=\"polite\" aria-busy=\"false\">\n<p data-path-to-node=\"9\"><b data-path-to-node=\"9\" data-index-in-node=\"0\">February 2, 2025<\/b><\/p>\n<p data-path-to-node=\"9\">Prohibitions on AI systems considered to pose <b data-path-to-node=\"9\" data-index-in-node=\"63\">&#8220;unacceptable risk&#8221;<\/b> begin to apply, along with <b data-path-to-node=\"9\" data-index-in-node=\"110\">AI literacy <\/b>obligations (for developers, providers, and operators).<\/p>\n<p data-path-to-node=\"9\"><i data-path-to-node=\"9\" data-index-in-node=\"178\">(Article 113, point a) and Recital 179)<\/i><\/p>\n<p data-path-to-node=\"10\"><b data-path-to-node=\"10\" data-index-in-node=\"0\">May 2, 2025<\/b><\/p>\n<p data-path-to-node=\"10\">The Commission must have <b data-path-to-node=\"10\" data-index-in-node=\"37\">codes of practice<\/b> ready to guide providers\u2014especially of general-purpose AI (GPAI) models\u2014on transparency obligations, security, etc.<\/p>\n<p data-path-to-node=\"10\"><i data-path-to-node=\"10\" data-index-in-node=\"171\">(Article 56.9, Recital 179)<\/i><\/p>\n<p data-path-to-node=\"11\"><b data-path-to-node=\"11\" data-index-in-node=\"0\">August 2, 2025<\/b><\/p>\n<p data-path-to-node=\"11\">A critical date with multiple milestones:<\/p>\n<ul data-path-to-node=\"12\">\n<li>\n<p data-path-to-node=\"12,0,0\">Rules regarding <b data-path-to-node=\"12,0,0\" data-index-in-node=\"16\">notified bodies<\/b> (Chapter III, Section 4), <b data-path-to-node=\"12,0,0\" data-index-in-node=\"58\">GPAI models<\/b> (Chapter V), <b data-path-to-node=\"12,0,0\" data-index-in-node=\"83\">governance<\/b>(Chapter VII), <b data-path-to-node=\"12,0,0\" data-index-in-node=\"109\">confidentiality<\/b> (Article 78), and <b data-path-to-node=\"12,0,0\" data-index-in-node=\"143\">penalties<\/b> (Articles 99 and 100) begin to apply.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<p data-path-to-node=\"12,1,0\">Providers of GPAI models already on the market or in service before this date have until <b data-path-to-node=\"12,1,0\" data-index-in-node=\"89\">August 2, 2027<\/b>, to adapt to the regulation.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<p data-path-to-node=\"12,2,0\">Member States must designate <b data-path-to-node=\"12,2,0\" data-index-in-node=\"29\">national competent authorities<\/b> (notification and market surveillance), inform the Commission, and publish their contact details.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<p data-path-to-node=\"12,3,0\">They must also establish the <b data-path-to-node=\"12,3,0\" data-index-in-node=\"29\">national penalty regime<\/b> (fines, enforcement measures) applicable under the Regulation.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<p data-path-to-node=\"12,4,0\">If codes of practice are not approved or are deemed insufficient, the Commission may issue implementing acts to establish common rules.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<p data-path-to-node=\"12,5,0\">From this point forward, the Commission will review prohibitions annually.<\/p>\n<p data-path-to-node=\"12,5,0\"><i data-path-to-node=\"12,5,0\" data-index-in-node=\"75\">(Article 113, point b); needs: <a class=\"ng-star-inserted\" href=\"https:\/\/yourbloglink.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Predictive AI in Apps: The Future of User Experience<\/a><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h3 data-path-to-node=\"15\">2026<\/h3>\n<p data-path-to-node=\"16\"><b data-path-to-node=\"16\" data-index-in-node=\"0\">February 2, 2026<\/b><\/p>\n<p data-path-to-node=\"16\">The Commission must publish guidelines clarifying the practical application of Article 6, particularly regarding <b data-path-to-node=\"16\" data-index-in-node=\"130\">post-market monitoring<\/b>.<\/p>\n<p data-path-to-node=\"16\"><i data-path-to-node=\"16\" data-index-in-node=\"154\">(Article 6.5 and Article 72.3)<\/i><\/p>\n<p data-path-to-node=\"17\"><b data-path-to-node=\"17\" data-index-in-node=\"0\">August 2, 2026<\/b><\/p>\n<p data-path-to-node=\"17\">The <b data-path-to-node=\"17\" data-index-in-node=\"19\">majority of the remaining Act<\/b> becomes active: unless explicitly excepted, most provisions of the AI Act become enforceable.<\/p>\n<ul data-path-to-node=\"18\">\n<li>\n<p data-path-to-node=\"18,0,0\">Operators of <b data-path-to-node=\"18,0,0\" data-index-in-node=\"13\">high-risk AI systems<\/b> (not covered by GPAI models) must comply with the regulation whenever they make significant changes to their design from this date onward.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p data-path-to-node=\"18,1,0\">Each Member State must have at least one <b data-path-to-node=\"18,1,0\" data-index-in-node=\"41\">&#8220;regulatory sandbox&#8221;<\/b>\u2014a controlled environment for AI testing\u2014operational to allow experimentation under regulatory supervision.<\/p>\n<p data-path-to-node=\"18,1,0\"><i data-path-to-node=\"18,1,0\" data-index-in-node=\"169\">(Article 113 for general application; Article 111.2 for high risk; Article 57.1 for sandbox)<\/i><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h3 data-path-to-node=\"20\">2027<\/h3>\n<p data-path-to-node=\"21\"><b data-path-to-node=\"21\" data-index-in-node=\"0\">August 2, 2027<\/b><\/p>\n<p data-path-to-node=\"21\"><b data-path-to-node=\"21\" data-index-in-node=\"15\">Article 6(1) enters into force.<\/b><\/p>\n<ul data-path-to-node=\"22\">\n<li>\n<p data-path-to-node=\"22,0,0\">Providers of GPAI models marketed before August 2, 2025, must have complied with all obligations under the regulation.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p data-path-to-node=\"22,1,0\">AI systems integrated into <b data-path-to-node=\"22,1,0\" data-index-in-node=\"27\">large-scale IT infrastructures<\/b>\u2014as defined in Annex X\u2014that were already in service before this date must comply with the regulation by <b data-path-to-node=\"22,1,0\" data-index-in-node=\"161\">December 31, 2030<\/b>.<\/p>\n<p data-path-to-node=\"22,1,0\"><i data-path-to-node=\"22,1,0\" data-index-in-node=\"180\">(Article 113 for Article 6(1); Article 111.3 for GPAI; Article 111.1 for large infrastructures)<\/i><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h3 data-path-to-node=\"24\">2028 and beyond<\/h3>\n<p data-path-to-node=\"25\"><b data-path-to-node=\"25\" data-index-in-node=\"0\">August 2, 2028<\/b><\/p>\n<p data-path-to-node=\"25\">The Commission will evaluate the performance of the new European AI authority (the <b data-path-to-node=\"25\" data-index-in-node=\"98\">&#8220;AI Office&#8221;<\/b>).<\/p>\n<p data-path-to-node=\"26\"><b data-path-to-node=\"26\" data-index-in-node=\"0\">From this date, every three years:<\/b><\/p>\n<p data-path-to-node=\"26\">The impact and effectiveness of voluntary <b data-path-to-node=\"26\" data-index-in-node=\"77\">codes of conduct<\/b> will be reviewed.<\/p>\n<p data-path-to-node=\"27\"><b data-path-to-node=\"27\" data-index-in-node=\"0\">Every four years:<\/b><\/p>\n<ul data-path-to-node=\"28\">\n<li>\n<p data-path-to-node=\"28,0,0\">The Commission will analyze whether <b data-path-to-node=\"28,0,0\" data-index-in-node=\"36\">regulatory modifications<\/b> are necessary (e.g., lists of systems subject to additional transparency requirements (Article 50), Annex III headings, or the governance model).<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<p data-path-to-node=\"28,1,0\">The <b data-path-to-node=\"28,1,0\" data-index-in-node=\"4\">delegation of powers<\/b> conferred to the Commission will also be reviewed in this cycle, unless the Parliament or the Council objects.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p data-path-to-node=\"29\"><b data-path-to-node=\"29\" data-index-in-node=\"0\">August 2, 2029 (and every four years thereafter):<\/b><\/p>\n<p data-path-to-node=\"29\">The Commission will submit a <b data-path-to-node=\"29\" data-index-in-node=\"79\">general evaluation report<\/b> of the Regulation to the European institutions.<\/p>\n<p data-path-to-node=\"30\">&#x1f449;
